Patients and families often ask about memory loss.  There are many diseases that contribute to memory loss and inability to make decisions.   We need to first make the correct diagnosis.  This is not always some thing that can be done in a single visit–usually we repeat tests over the course of months or years to establish the trend.  We may order various scans of the brain and blood tests.  One of the most important tests is a Mental Status Exam (for a copy of the exam, click here, for a copy of the instructions click here.)
